Description

A sleeker, more feminine update on the classic convertible pant, the Silver Ridge features a super-flattering silhouette and our sublimely comfy Silver Ridge stretch fabric. Zip-off the legs when the morning mists burns off, open the ankle zippers to get the legs over your hiking boots. Omni-Wick® technology wicks sweat away from your skin and encourages air circulation, while mobility-facilitating gussets and 2-way comfort stretch fabric deliver complete freedom of movement. The rear yoke curves to flatter and harbors hidden vents to keep the cool-air flowing. Store energy bars, compasses, and lip balm in the zip-closed security pocket at left hip. Sits just below the waist. Perfect for outdoor activities on days that start out chilly but gradually warm up, these pants convert into shorts with just a quick zip: wicking fabric and built-in UPF 50 sun protection are just the start of a long feature list that enhance comfort, versatility and protection.

I took the advice of other reviewers and ordered this in an 8 long, rather than the 4 or 6 long as I normally wear. I have not worn Columbia pants before, so I don't know how this compares to their normal sizing. I think the 8 fits about like a 6 at old navy would.I am 5'9" and 145 pounds, my height is in my legs. The longs are a good length for me - they brush the floor when I am barefoot. I often wear juniors sizes because I am not overly "hippy" and women's pants tend to have a baggy crotch when I wear them. Since these are a thin feeling synthetic fabric, their "crotchyness" does not bother me while sitting. They fit higher on the waist that "low rise" jeans which is nice, especially in the back. I think I could have worn a 6 in these, but I am happy with the 8 because I plan to wear leggings/under armor underneath for cold weather. The fabric is not especially stretchy, so it would constrict movement if they fit tightly. The smaller size would probably show underwear lines. Sizing up 1-2 sizes is good if you like a more relaxed fit (they are not baggy, just relaxed.) I wear a belt to keep them from sliding down - it would be nice if they were a little tighter in the waist. (but I have this problem with every single pair of pants that I own)The zippers work well for zip-off shorts, but I think I will be careful with them since they are plastic zippers. The front pockets are not zippered and have mesh interior. One back pocket is velcro, the other is zippered. The cargo pocket on the right side is held by two pieces of velcro. There is a pull cord on the bottom hem of the pants that you can tighten to keep insects and other critters from crawling up your legs. The bottom hem also has a zipper so you can roll them up to your knee. There is no loop and snap to hold them there once you roll them up. They feel fairly secure rolled, but I imagine they might slip down during a hike. Of course, you could always just take the bottoms off if they are a bother.Overall a pretty good buy.** Update **Just discovered that the pants have buttons along the back waistband, and you can adjust the fit of the waist by moving an elastic strap. PERFECT! Thank you Columbia, now I don't need to wear these pants with a belt! Changing the review to 5 stars for that.I will start this off with the one thing that I was a little disappointed in. After reading a bunch of reviews that stated that this pant runs kind of small, most recommended to order one or two sizes larger. I was expecting a smaller pant. I am 5'4" and I weight 105 lbs. I normally wear a size 0 pant and I ordered a size 2 pant. Though people recommended that I should buy the pant to 2 sizes larger I normally wear, I went with my instinct and bought the size 2 anyways. If they had a size 0, I probably would have gotten that instead. The size 2 was way to big for me. There is a little adjustable back piece that cinched down to the smallest size but then have a bit of "bunching" going on in the back of the pant. When I washed the pant it did shrink just a little, but not enough to un-cinch the back of the pant. Overall this pant is TRUE TO SIZE.This pant is definitely thinner, which can be more or less useful depending on your situation. I just got back from a month long adventure in Peru (July- August) which is the middle of their winter. This pant was a little to thin for me to wear it on it's own. I wore a pair of merino leggings under the pant anytime I wore it to stay warm enough. I plan on traveling to Costa Rica soon and I am very excited about using this pant for how cool and airy it will be.I have hiked through a bunch of overgrown trails and the pants did not snag or tear anywhere. They held up wonderfully to the wear and tears hiking brings on. The pant unzips on outer lower part of the leg which is great to be able to unzip and get access to higher parts of your boots with ease.Another great detail is they label the lower leg to which side the leg goes on so when you unzip the pants off to convert these into shorts, you will know what lower leg goes to what upper leg. Its a little detail but makes it a bit easier when you go to reattach the leg part.Yeah, finally hiking pants for women with pockets!!!! why do men design hiking pants for women with no rear pockets you ask??? It's so they can see your rear! These are really nice pants, just love them. I also own quite a few pairs of Columbia's Aruba v pants, which fit loosely in comparison. The Silver Ridge fit is slim, fit or toned which ever you prefer. If your a little bigger you do want to go up 2 sizes to be comfortable or they will be tight, very tight! Now the reason you go 2 sizes bigger, the waist has a built in adjustable elastic band with buttons so you can dial in your fit!! It's totally concealed inside the waist inside the pants. The top double snap closure closes tightly. say that 3 times ha ha ha. The slash hand pockets are mesh, really like the mesh great idea, for coolness and quick dry times. Love that they labeled the zip off legs with L and R tags! also the bottom of the pant legs zip up and have a cinch cord!! Wow, a lot packed into these pants! The rear pockets have 1 zip for security 1 Velcro and yup there mesh too! UPF 50 as well. Oh they also look really good on as well. There is also a pocket on the leg which also closes with Velcro. These are the Best hiking pants I have found so far, best looking, totally functional and POCKETS!!!Bottom line: Worth every penny, Best women's hiking pants with pockets. Buy them...really.I have bought great Columbia fleeces in the past but this is the first time I ever purchased their trousers. I went for 8R which is the usual UK size I buy with other Companies with no issues however these were far too big and I have sent them back. I did not want to exchange them for another size as I would be concerned with the sizing and as I end up paying for the return post I did not want to risk it again.2 starrs is for the sizing. Complete waste of my time. Ordered a 10 as per size chart but they are more like a 14! And sedning back from Italy is a pain in the bum! What makes it worse is I have sent back 3 x Marmot pants for the very same thing- US /Uk sizing!!The product itself seems to be ok, BUT - be very careful with sizing!!!Size chart shows UK sizes, but from the drop-down menu you select AMERICAN sizes! I ordered size 6 (which I thought was UK 6 size (European 34)), but received the American size 6 (UK 10 or European 38)!Very disappointing experience. Have already returned the purchase. They don't look as a durable product, otherwise they're fine. the inside pockets are of thin, net-like material, which I'm afraid won't last long if you keep anything in the pocket. Otherwise very light, and seem comfortable. Be aware that sizing is in US measure, so 12 UK = 8 US.Only thing I would say is size up! I bought a size 10 and they were snug but apart from that good purchase!
